StudyAbroad.com Promotes Multiculturalism and Diversity in Education with InternationalEducationWeek.com
Chester, PA, October 15, 2001 -
StudyAbroad.com today announced the launch of the Cultural Events Calendar on its newest Web site, InternationalEducationWeek.com. The calendar lists all official campus and government events during International Education Week, November 12-16, and campus cultural events throughout the year. This unique resource was created in response to Secretary of State Colin Powell's call for support of International Education Week. InternationalEducationWeek.com is sponsored by the American Institute of Foreign Study and supported by its institutional sponsors, The Institute of International Education (www.IIE.org) and NAFSA: Association of International Educators (www.nafsa.org).
"International education prepares our citizens to live, work, and compete in the global economy, and promotes tolerance and the reduction of conflict," says Powell. "In November 2001, U.S. embassies around the world will carry out activities in support of International Education Week. I encourage schools, businesses and communities to join with us in commemorating International Education Week."
"Now, more than ever, citizens of the world need to promote cultural understanding," says Mark Shay, CEO of Educational Directories Unlimited, parent company of StudyAbroad.com and InternationalEducationWeek.com. "StudyAbroad.com helps break down cultural barriers by encouraging international study programs, and InternationalEducationWeek.com is an effective tool to communicate activities and events designed for students and faculty. Developing InternationalEducationWeek.com exemplifies StudyAbroad.com's commitment to international education."
InternationalEducationWeek.com was developed by StudyAbroad.com to support the goals of international understanding, cooperation and multi-cultural educational experiences central to International Education Week and to promote diversity year-round.
Just last week, InternationalEducationWeek.com launched its essay contest that will reward one lucky student the grand prize of a summer session in England. Interested students can enter to win the essay contest by answering one of three essay questions about international study and multiculturalism posted on the Web site. The contest's grand prize includes three weeks of study at Richmond - The American International University in London, housing, meals, tuition, and airfare. The grand prize will be provided courtesy of the American Institute of Foreign Study (www.aifsabroad.com), which organizes cultural exchange programs throughout the world for more than 50,000 students each year. Second and third prizes will also be awarded, as well as honorable mentions.
Essays for the contest must be received no later than October 26. The winners will be selected by panelists from StudyAbroad.com and will be announced the first day of International Education Week, November 12.
